MORGANTOWN, W.Va. –
The West Virginia University tennis team (8-7, 0-5 Big 12) takes a break from conference play this weekend, as it hosts California University of Pennsylvania and Towson for a nonconference doubleheader on Saturday, March 30, at the Summit Tennis Academy in Morgantown.
Saturday's action is scheduled to begin at 9 a.m. ET against the Vulcans. Following the conclusion of the first match, WVU is set to square off against the Tigers in a match tentatively scheduled for 1 p.m. Fans can follow the action against
California (Pa.) and
Towson via StatBroadcast.
"I think, this year, it will benefit us to have a little bit of a break from Big 12 competition and have a double-header coming up this Saturday," said coach
Miha Lisac. "You can get a lot of matches in in a day, and I feel like a lot of our players will benefit from that."
With the series beginning in 1974, the Mountaineers are 10-2 all-time against Cal U. In the last meeting between the two teams in 2015, WVU defeated the Vulcans, 4-0, in Morgantown.
Cal U owns a 4-3 record entering the weekend. Saturday's contest marks the Vulcans first competition since the fall. Cal U last competed against West Virginia State, falling 6-1.
West Virginia is 2-0 in the series against Towson. In its last meeting against the Tigers in 2015, WVU won, 6-1, in Morgantown.
Towson (5-10, 1-1 CAA) enters Saturday's matchup riding a two-match win streak, claiming wins over University of Saint Katherine, 7-0, and Mount Saint Mary's (Md.), 6-1.
Cal U and Towson are scheduled to play each other at the Summit Tennis Academy in Morgantown today before Saturday's double-header.
NOTES: West Virginia owns a 119-114 record against 2019 opponents, including a 10-2 record against Cal U and a 2-0 record against Towson ...
