MORGANTOWN, W.Va. – The West Virginia University tennis team (6-1, 0-1 Big 12) is set for its fourth road trip of the season, as the Mountaineers travel to VCU on Saturday, March 2, and No. 29 Old Dominion on Sunday, March 3.
The Mountaineers are scheduled to begin play at 10 a.m. ET on Saturday, from the Thalhimer Tennis Center in Richmond, Virginia. Fans can follow Saturday's contest vs. VCU by visiting the live stats link.
West Virginia is scheduled to begin play at 10 a.m. ET on Sunday, from the Folkes-Stevens Tennis Center in Norfolk, Virginia. Fans can follow Sunday's contest vs. ODU by visiting the live stats link.
"VCU and ODU will both be good tests for us," said head coach Miha Lisac. "We've played VCU more recently than Old Dominion, but they're both very good programs. We're getting to the point where these are great opportunities for us to make a statement and to really put our program on the map and put everybody on notice because of what we've been able to accomplish and build so far. We're excited about the challenges. They both will be a tough test, and they both will be ready to play against us."
Marking the seventh meeting between the two teams, VCU holds a 4-2 advantage over WVU. In last year's regular-season contest, West Virginia was defeated by the Rams, 2-4, in Morgantown. In the Fall, junior Christina Jordan was bested, 2-6, 3-6, by VCU's Anna Rasmussen in the first round of the Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) Regionals in Lynchburg, Virginia.
VCU (8-2, 1-0 A10) rides a six-match win streak into Saturday's contest.
Entering Sunday's matchup, WVU is 1-9 all-time against Old Dominion. The Mountaineers' lone win, 5-4, over the Monarchs came in 1990. In last season's contest, WVU lost to No. 35 Old Dominion, 0-4, in Morgantown.
Old Dominion enters the weekend with a 9-2 record, 1-0 in Conference USA play, but is scheduled to square off against Memphis on Saturday, March 2, prior to WVU's contest. The Monarchs check in at No. 29 in the latest Oracle/ITA rankings, marking the first ranked opponent that WVU has faced this season.
