MORGANTOWN, W.Va. – Twenty members of the West Virginia University men's and women's swimming and diving teams wrapped up competition at USA Swimming's 2019 Toyota U.S. Open Championships in Atlanta, Georgia, on Saturday.
Saturday's action at Georgia Tech's McAuley Aquatic Center was highlighted by senior
Trayton Saladin's eighth-place finish in the C final of the 200 backstroke and freshman
Hunter Armstrong's tie for second in the 18 and under D final of the 100 freestyle.
"Trayton and Hunter had great finals swims tonight to finish off the week," WVU coach
Vic Riggs said. "Everyone continued to race very well today, and it was a very productive meet for the team. We now know how we need to work moving forward in order to prepare for the championship portion of our season. We gained a lot of confidence from a very good showing this week."
Saladin finished 25th overall in the prelims of the 200 back, posting a time of 2:03.80 to qualify for the C final. The Buchanan, Michigan, native posted a time of 2:04.55 in the finals to finish in eighth place and 24th overall.
In his 100 free prelim swim, Armstrong finished in 36th place with a time of 50.53 to qualify for the 18 and under D final. In the event, the Dover, Ohio, native finished in a tie for second place with a time of 50.70.
