WVU to Finish Fall in Hawaii

MORGANTOWN, W.Va. – The West Virginia University golf team will cap fall play in Hawaii, as the Mountaineers travel to the Ka'anapali Collegiate Classic in Lahaina, Hawaii, from Friday through Sunday.
The University of Hawaii will host the event at the Royal Ka'anapali Course on the island of Maui. West Virginia returns for its third straight season at the event and is joined by Wyoming, Southern Illinois, No. 5 Oklahoma, No. 31 South Carolina, Boise State, North Texas, No. 15 Clemson, No. 23 UCLA, UConn, Gonzaga, No. 19 Georgia, No. 37 Liberty, Sacramento State, Air Force, No. 18 Washington, No. 44 Kansas, UC Santa Barbara and George Washington.
"We are excited to return to Royal Ka'anapali and compete in this special event," coach Sean Covich said. "Not only do we get to play a tournament in paradise, we are also competing against some of the best teams in the nation. We will need to be sharp in all phases of the game to compete this week."
Golfers will play one round each day on the par-71, 6,700-yard course. Golfers will tee off in a shotgun start at 2:30 p.m. each day. The Mountaineers are paired with Hawaii, Wyoming and Southern Illinois for the first round.
Senior Etienne Papineau, junior Logan Perkins, junior Matthew Sharpstene, freshman Nico Lang and junior Mark Goetz will be in the lineup for WVU, with senior Philipp Matlari competing as an individual.
Papineau's 71.83 stroke average leads the way this season, while Perkins is a team-best 0.25 vs. par with a 72.00 scoring average. Four of the five golfers in the lineup boast at least one top-10 finish on the year, highlighted by runner-up finishes from Sharpstene, Goetz and Perkins.
Most recently, West Virginia joined UCF in hosting the Tavistock Collegiate Invitational from Oct. 20-22 at Isleworth Golf & Country Club in Windermere, Florida.
