"Kansas State is a team that is way better than their record," Coach
Nikki Izzo-Brown said. "They have been in a lot of close games this year, so we are going to be prepared for a battle on Sunday."
Sunday's match marks the third meeting between the Mountaineers and Wildcats. West Virginia is 2-0-0 all-time against Kansas State and has outscored KSU, 5-0, in the two previous meetings.
WVU enters the contest with an 8-6-2 record (3-3-1 Big 12) after earning a 1-1 draw against Kansas on Oct. 24 in Lawrence. The Mountaineers jumped out to an early lead after freshman forward
Enzi Broussard scored in the fifth minute. KU controlled possession for most of the second half, recording 10 shots before scoring the equalizer in the 84th minute.
The Mountaineer defense put together its best performance of the season, as the Jayhawks scored just one goal despite holding a 26-5 advantage in shots.
Senior goalkeeper
Rylee Foster tied a season-high with nine saves in the contest. She is tied for second in the Big 12 with 57 saves this season.
Freshman forward
Julianne Vallerand leads the Mountaineers with 11 points (5 G, 1 A) this season. Sophomore forward Stahl is second on the team with four goals and paces the team with two game-winning goals this season.
The Wildcats enter the contest with a 3-11-2 overall record, with a 1-6 record in conference play after falling to Baylor on Oct. 24.
Junior midfielder Brookelynn Entz paces the Wildcats in points (10) and assists (4) this season, while seniors Laramie Hall and Katie Cramer are tied for the team lead with four goals.
Mike Dibbini is in his fourth season as KSU's first-ever head coach after the program's inception in 2016. He has an overall record of 282-121-41 including a 17-43-8 record in Manhattan.
