"Oklahoma is a team that has been getting solid results so far this season," WVU coach
Nikki Izzo-Brown said. "They are playing great defense and aren't giving up a lot of goals, so we have to do our jobs on the offensive side of things to get points against a great opponent."
Sunday's match marks the 11th meeting between the Mountaineers and the Sooners. West Virginia is 9-0-1 against Oklahoma and has outscored OU, 24-4 in the 10 previous meetings.
In the last meeting between the two squads, then-No. 13 WVU scored three second-half goals en route to a 3-0 win over seventh-seeded Oklahoma in the quarterfinals of the 2018 Big 12 Soccer Championship.
The Mountaineers are 5-2-1 at Dick Dlesk Soccer Stadium this season and 26-4-2 all-time in home Big 12 matches.
WVU enters the contest with a 7-6-1 overall record and a 2-3 mark in league play after falling to No. 15 Oklahoma State on Thursday. WVU netted a goal in the 82nd minute but could not overcome a two-goal halftime-deficit as the Cowgirls picked up their first ever win over the Mountaineers.
West Virginia ranks No. 4 nationally and leads the Big 12 Conference with 7.71 corner kicks per game this season. WVU also has outscored opponents, 25-20, this season, while holding a 216-136 advantage in shots over its counterparts. The Mountaineers have shined in the final 45 minutes of play this season, edging opponents 17-10 in goals and 119-60 in shots in the second half.
Oklahoma is 8-5-3 this season and sits at sixth in the Big 12 with a 3-2-1 record in conference play. OU enters the match riding a two-match winning streak after knocking off Iowa State, 1-0, in Ames on Oct. 17.
Redshirt senior Kaylee Dao leads the Sooner in points (26) and goals (13) this season. Doa's 13 goals lead the Big 12, and she ranks second in the league in points per game, with 1.62.
