West Virginia Wins Five on Day Two

MORGANTOWN, W.Va. – Five wins led the way on Saturday afternoon, as the West Virginia University tennis team capped day two of the Martha Thorn Invitational at the Mountaineer Tennis Courts in Morgantown.
"We had some tough battles today that will be great to learn from," WVU coach Miha Lisac said. "I am glad we are getting tough matches throughout tournaments that are challenging us to raise our level early in the season."
Doubles Recap
The Mountaineers paired against Navy for the second day of doubles action and claimed three victories against the Midshipmen.
Senior Sofia Duran and sophomore Nicole Roc led the way for the Mountaineers, as the duo went undefeated in doubles on day two. The pair claimed their first win against Tina Li and Samantha Choi, winning 7-5, and secured their second victory against Amanda Cyr and Jillian Taggart, besting the duo 6-4.
Junior Giovanna Caputo and sophomore Anastasiia Bovolskaia secured the third doubles victory for the Mountaineers on Friday, as they also defeated the duo of Cyr and Taggart, 6-4.
Junior Anne-Sophie Courteau and freshman Kat Lyman suffered setbacks in both of their doubles contests, as they fell to Meghana Komarraju and Katreina Corpuz, 5-7, and Aimee Dervishian and Annalise Klopfer in a tiebreaker, 6-7 (2-7).

West Virginia also squared off against Navy in singles play, splitting two singles matches against the Midshipmen on the second day.
Courteau got things rolling for the Mountaineers, as she defeated Komarraju in straight sets, 7-5, 6-2. Bovolskaia also secured a two-set victory for West Virginia after defeating Annalise Klopfer, 7-5, 6-4.
Lyman suffered her first setback of the season on Saturday, as she fell in straight sets, 1-6,2-6, to Kacey Moore.
The final match between Duran and Choi featured a pair of tiebreakers. In the first set, with the score knotted up at 6-6, Duran claimed the tiebreaker, 7-4, to take an early advantage. Choi rebounded to take the second set, 6-3. In the super tiebreaker, Duran fell to Choi, 9-11.
