MORGANTOWN, W.Va. – The West Virginia University tennis team finished the weekend with a sweep against Navy in singles play on Sunday afternoon at the Summit Tennis Academy in Morgantown to cap the 2019 Martha Thorn Invitational.
"It was a good weekend of competition for us, and we are looking forward to next week's regional tournament," WVU coach Miha Lisac said. "The battles that we are going through now will prepare us well for the season and competition in conference play."
Singles Recap
For the second consecutive day, West Virginia squared off against the Midshipmen in singles play.
After suffering her first singles setback of the season on Saturday, freshman Kat Lyman rebounded in strong fashion in the tournament finale, as she defeated Aimee Dervishian in two sets, 6-3, 6-2.
Senior Sofia Duran and sophomore Anastasiia Bovolskaia both posted dominating wins on the final day of tournament action, each winning in straight sets. Duran posted her first singles win of the season against Tina Li, 6-1, 6-2, while Bovolskaia earned the victory against Danika Kahatapitiya, 6-2, 6-0.
