Jalen Hurts completed 11-of-12 passes for 190 yards and two touchdowns and ran in another one to give the Sooners a 28-14 halftime lead over West Virginia at Gaylord Family – Oklahoma Memorial Stadium in Norman, Oklahoma.
Hurts' two touchdown passes were to Jeremiah Hall coming out of the backfield for 20 yards and to Charleston Rambo for 6 yards, his run came from the 2 and Kennedy Brooks added a 9-yard second quarter touchdown run.
Three of OU's four first-half scoring drives consumed less than three minutes of the game clock.
T.J. Simmons was responsible for both West Virginia touchdowns, the first coming after a successful fake punt deep in Mountaineer territory when
Josh Growden completed a 7-yard pass to
Dante Bonamico.
Facing a fourth and six at the OU 38, Simmons took a Kendall short pass at the OU 30 and broke a tackle at the 25 to run down the near sideline into the end zone.
Simmons' second TD grab right before the end of the half occurred when Kendall, facing a fourth and goal from the 7, maneuvered nicely in the pocket to buy some extra time before finding Simmons in the back of the end zone.
Kendall completed 13 of his 22 pass attempts for 128 yards, five of those going to Simmons for 58 yards.
Oklahoma is set to get the second half kickoff.
