Bullock Named Student-Athlete of the Week

MORGANTOWN, W.Va. – After winning four total events, including three individually, junior Morgan Bullock of the West Virginia University women's swimming and diving team has been named the WVU Student-Athlete of the Week, presented by University Apartments.
Bullock led the Mountaineers in their first meet of 2019 at Pitt on Jan. 5. After helping the 200 medley relay team to a win in a time of 1:44.24, the Zeeland, Michigan, native went on to win the 100 butterfly (55.43), 200 butterfly (2:00.58) and 200 individual medley (2:05.17).
The 2018 NCAA qualifier ranks No. 34 nationally in the 200 fly, with a top time of 1:57.31 on the season. Bullock and the Mountaineers return home for Senior Day on Saturday, Jan. 12. WVU is set to host Big 12 Conference foe TCU in the final dual meet in WVU Natatorium history.
This Week in Women's Basketball: The Mountaineers continue on with league play … the Mountaineers host Oklahoma State on Wednesday, Jan. 9, in a 7 p.m. tipoff at the WVU Coliseum … it will be Dollar Night with all admission just $1, as well as Trivia Night … WVU will travel to Norman, Oklahoma, on Sunday, Jan. 13, for a 3 p.m. tilt at Oklahoma.
Last Week in Women's Basketball: West Virginia opened Big 12 play with a pair of games … the Mountaineers dropped a 62-48 contest to TCU in Fort Worth on Wednesday … senior guard/forward Naomi Davenport had a team-high 22 points and just missed a double-double with nine rebounds … redshirt junior guard Tynice Martin had 10 points and five rebounds as WVU shot just over 32 percent in the loss … WVU hosted No. 13 Texas at the WVU Coliseum on Sunday, falling to the Longhorns by a score of 70-58 … Davenport again led the way with a season-high 26 points … she was the lone Mountaineer in double figures as Martin and freshman guard Madisen Smith each finished with nine.

This Week in Gymnastics: No. 22-ranked West Virginia continues its season-opening road trip at Pitt, with Utah State and Eastern Michigan, on Saturday, Jan. 12, at 2 p.m., inside Fitzgerald Field House in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania … it will be the season opener for everyone but the Mountaineers.
Last Week in Gymnastics: WVU (1-2, 0-1) opened the 2019 season with a third place, 194.15 showing at the Cancun Classic on Jan. 4, inside the Fiesta Americana Grand Coral Ballroom in Cancun, Mexico … No. 9-ranked Michigan placed first with a 196.05 mark, while Iowa State finished second (194.275) and Rutgers finished fourth (189.8) … the Mountaineers finished first on balance beam (48.775) and floor exercise (49.05) and third on uneven bars (47.525) and vault (48.8) … senior Kirah Koshinski tied for the floor win with a 9.925 score … she also paced the team on vault with a 9.8 … freshmen Esperanza Abarca and Rachel Hornung earned team-best 9.8 scores on bars and beam, respectively … junior Abby Kaufman placed third in the all-around with a 38.375 total.

This Week in Track & Field: WVU opens the 2019 indoor campaign by hosting the Marty Pushkin Track Classic on Friday, Jan. 11, at the WVU Shell Building … the meet is set to commence at 5 p.m.
Last Season in Track & Field: Two student-athletes earned four total All-America honors to highlight West Virginia's 2017-18 season … Madelin Gardner registered All-America First Team distinction with an eighth-place finish in the women's pole vault at the 2018 NCAA Outdoor Championships in Eugene, Oregon … Gardner also earned All-America Second Team honors with a ninth-place finish in the pole vault at the 2018 Indoor Championships in College Station, Texas … Amy Cashin received a pair of All-America honors, earning second-team accolades in the women's steeplechase (outdoor) with a 13th-place finish at the national meet, as well as the women's mile (indoor – 9th place) … Gardner broke the indoor and outdoor pole vault school records last season, while Cashin became the first Mountaineer woman to break the 10-minute barrier in the steeplechase … additionally, Gardner was named the USTFCCCA Mid-Atlantic Region Indoor Field Athlete of the Year … Cashin was named the Big 12 Track and Field Scholar-Athlete of the Year for the second consecutive season … WVU finished ninth at the Big 12 indoor and outdoor meets … WVU placed 17 student-athletes of the Academic All-Big 12 team last season.
