
Tun Named Student-Athlete of the Week

MORGANTOWN, W.Va. – Following a career-best showing in two events, West Virginia University senior gymnast Jaquie Tun has been named the WVU Student-Athlete of the Week, presented by University Apartments.
Tun, a native of Chattanooga, Tennessee, tallied career highs of 9.9 on floor and vault at Pitt on Saturday, Jan. 12, and finished first and second, respectively. Previously, Tun had scored as high as 9.85 on both events. She also finished fifth on bars with a 9.775 total.
The Mountaineers swept the competition at Pitt, earning three wins with a season-high 195.5 score. Tun's marks helped WVU finish first on each event she competed on with season-best scores of 49.275 on floor, 49.2 on vault and 48.775 on bars. Through two weeks of competition, she shows three podium finishes.
This Week in Women's Basketball: West Virginia plays a pair of Big 12 contests ... the Mountaineers host Iowa State on Wednesday in a 7 p.m. tipoff … the game is another Dress Like Mike night, with the first 500 fans in attendance receiving free mustaches … on Sunday, WVU travels to Waco, Texas, to face No. 4 Baylor in 5 p.m. tipoff at the Ferrell Center … the game will air on FS1.
Last Week in Women's Basketball: The Mountaineers came away with a pair of league wins last week … on Wednesday, WVU downed Oklahoma State, 67-58, at the WVU Coliseum for its first Big 12 win of the season … redshirt junior guard Tynice Martin had 21 points in the win, while freshman Kari Niblack recorded her third career double-double with 11 points and 12 rebounds … West Virginia rolled to its second straight Big 12 victory on Sunday with a 66-55 triumph of Oklahoma in Norman … Martin again led the scoring with 20 points, while junior guard Lucky Rudd had 12 points … WVU shot 33.3 percent from the field and made eight 3-pointers with 11 steals and five blocks.
