Olivia Hill of the West Virginia University cross country team has been named the Big 12 Runner of the Week, the conference announced on Tuesday.
Hill earned a second-place finish at the Lock Haven Invitational on Sept. 22, in Lock Haven, Pennsylvania, crossing the West Branch Cross Country Course at the Stern Athletic Complex (6k) finish line in 20:59.5. The Scott Depot, West Virginia, native was the first of three Mountaineer runners to finish in the top five.
WVU, which earned the team victory at the meet, was among 17 schools competing in a field of 221 total runners. It marked the program's first multi-win season since 2011.
For Hill, the performance was her second top-three finish of the season. She opened the 2018 campaign with a third-place finish on Aug. 31, at the Charlotte Opener in Concord, North Carolina.
Hill is the fifth Mountaineer in program history, and the second this season, to earn the conference's weekly honor. Freshman
Charlotte Wood was named Big 12 Runner of the Week on Sept. 4, while
Amy Cashin (2017),
Jillian Forsey (2016) and Sarah Martinelli (2013) also received the honor.
WVU is back in action on Saturday, Sept. 29, at the Paul Short Run in Bethlehem, Pennsylvania. The women's 6k race at Lehigh's Goodman Campus Cross Country Course is set to begin at 9:30 a.m. ET.
