MORGANTOWN, W.Va. – Following a week away from competition, the West Virginia University cross country team travels to the Lock Haven Invite on Saturday, Sept. 22, in Lock Haven, Pennsylvania.
The women's 6k race at the Stern Athletic Complex is set to begin at 11:30 a.m. ET. Live stats are available at LexiconTiming.com.
"Training has been progressing very well this fall, minus a vicious virus that has hammered the team over the last week," WVU coach Sean Cleary said. "We will bring a very small group to Lock Haven this weekend to allow the rest to stay home and recover. We are still very optimistic that we will field a strong team before bringing the entire group together over the next few weeks."
The Mountaineers are one of 18 schools competing at the meet this weekend. Joining WVU is Alderson Broaddus, Bloomsburg, Clarion, Juniata, Lebanon Valley, Lock Haven, Mansfield, Marywood, Penn State Club, Penn Club, Pitt Club, Point Park, Princeton Club, Slippery Rock, Susquehanna, West Chester and York.
West Virginia last competed at the Harry Groves Spiked Shoe Invitational on Sept. 7, in University Park, Pennsylvania. The Mountaineers earned a fifth-place team finish at the meet and were led by redshirt sophomore Sarah Wills. The Morgantown, West Virginia, native placed 12th overall, crossing the finish line in 21:28.
Redshirt sophomore Antigone Archer finished 20th in 22:07 on Penn State's Blue-White Course (6k), while freshman Hannah Lipps placed 21st in 22:08. Sophomore Bree Warren finished 33rd in 22:20, ahead of redshirt freshman Marianne Abdalah, who rounded out the Mountaineer scoring with a 42nd-place finish in 22:41.
Through two meets, Wills and Archer have secured a pair of top-20 finishes to start the season.
Saturday marks WVU's first trip to Lock Haven in 11 years. Former All-American and current graduate assistant Clara (Grandt) Santucci won at Lock Haven in 2007, leading a first-place team finish. She earned a time of 20:34 in the victory.
In this week's United States Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) Regional Rankings, the Mountaineers continue to sit No. 6 in the Mid-Atlantic Region.
