Abraham Named Student-Athlete of the Week

MORGANTOWN, W.Va. – After scoring a game-winning goal and giving the Mountaineers their first road victory of the 2018 season, senior forward Hannah Abraham of the West Virginia University women's soccer team has been named the WVU Student-Athlete of the Week, presented by University Apartments.
Tied 1-1 at Clemson on Sept. 7, Abraham headed in a free kick from goalkeeper Rylee Foster in the 80th minute to push WVU to a 2-1 victory over the Tigers at Riggs Field. The goal, her first of the season, was Abraham's team-best seventh career game-winner.
The Mountaineers (2-2-3) have now earned at least one nonconference victory in an opponent's home venue each season since 2015 and 17 times in program history.
The team is back home for a pair of contests this week. WVU hosts Boston University on Thursday, Sept. 13, at Dick Dlesk Soccer Stadium, before Saint Francis (Pa.) comes to town on Sunday, Sept. 16. The matches are set to begin at 7 p.m. and 1 p.m., respectively.
This Week in Women's Soccer: The Mountaineers close their nonconference slate with a pair of matches at Dick Dlesk Soccer Stadium … WVU plays host to Boston University in a Gold Rush match on Thursday, Sept. 13, at 7 p.m., and Saint Francis (Pa.) on Sunday, Sept. 16, at 1 p.m. … the first 500 fans Thursday night will receive a gold shaker and a foam finger … additionally, it's WVU Faculty/Staff night, and free admission will be given to all WVU faculty and staff members who show their WVU employee I.D. … Sunday is Youth Soccer Day, and fans who wear a youth soccer jersey will earn free admittance … the first 250 fans in attendance will receive a WVU jersey koozie, and a free postgame clinic for children ages 13 and under will follow the match.

This Week in Volleyball: West Virginia (4-5) returns home for the first time in two weeks, wrapping up the bulk of its nonconference slate by welcoming Morehead State (8-2), Penn (2-5) and Wake Forest (3-6) to the WVU Coliseum, on Sept. 14-15, for the Mountaineer Classic, which is in memory of loyal Mountaineer fan Roy Bucklew … the Mountaineers open play with the Eagles on Friday, Sept. 14, at 7 p.m. … WVU will host a book/school supply drive for the opening-match of the two-day tournament … fans who bring books and/or school supplies to donate to the Morgantown Public Library are eligible for a discounted ticket ($2) … WVU will then kick off Saturday's doubleheader event with free doughnuts and coffee to the first 100 fans, as the Mountaineers take on Penn at 11 a.m. … West Virginia will return to the court later that evening, as the squad goes head-to-head with Wake Forest at 7 p.m. … the first 250 fans will receive a free t-shirt, and the second autograph session of the year will follow the match … additionally, Mountaineer Kid's Club t-shirts can be picked during the evening matchup with the Demon Deacons.

Myers, Florida … sophomore defensive specialist Lindsay Proctor and freshman middle blocker Kristina Jordan earned all-tournament team honors for their efforts at the two-day event … the Mountaineers started off with a 3-0 sweep over Western Illinois Friday afternoon … West Virginia returned to the court Saturday morning, dropping a three-set match to Albany … despite the loss, West Virginia managed to bounce back in its final tilt of the weekend, topping host Florida Gulf Coast in a five-set thriller for the win later that evening … the Mountaineers played in their first five-set match of the year, taking the match from Eagles in set scores of 29-27, 11-25, 26-24, 10-25 and 15-13 … junior outside hitter Katelyn Evans lead the squad with 26 kills on the weekend, while freshman setter Lacey Zerwas dished out a team-high 59 assists … sophomore middle blocker Katie DeMeo led the blocking efforts with 12 total blocks, while Proctor dug 34 balls in three matches, including a career-high 21 digs in the win vs. FGCU.
