MORGANTOWN, W.Va. – Nine members of the West Virginia University men's and women's swimming and diving teams were named Scholar All-Americans by the College Swimming and Diving Coaches Association of America (CSCAA) on Wednesday.
CSCAA Scholar All-Americans
Senior Amelie Currat, juniors Julia Calcut and Madelyn Woods, sophomore Julia Miranda and freshman Ally VanNetta were honored for the women's team, while juniors Drew Damich and Austin Smith and sophomores Luke Hene and Ryan Kelly earned the academic honor for the men.
All nine Mountaineers earned honorable mention accolades.
Swimmers/divers named to the first team achieved a grade point average (GPA) of 3.50 or higher and participated in their respective NCAA/NAIA/NJCAA Swimming and Diving Championships. The honorable mention team recognizes student-athletes who have similarly achieved a GPA of 3.50 and achieved a "B" time standard during the 2017-18 season or competed at a regional- or zone-qualifying meet.
This year, a total of 1,069 student-athletes were first-team selections, while 1,137 others were named to the honorable mention team.
The two programs also were honored by the CSCAA last week, as the Mountaineers were named Scholar All-America Teams for the spring 2018 semester. With the honor, the women's team, which earned a cumulative GPA of 3.46, was recognized for the 21st consecutive semester.
The men's team earned a cumulative GPA of 3.12 and received the honor for the third time in the last four semesters.
