MORGANTOWN, W.Va. – Redshirt senior Amy Cashin of the West Virginia University track and field team has been named to the 2018 Google Cloud Academic All-America Women's Track & Field/Cross Country First Team, as selected by the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA).

Cashin was selected to the first team for the first time and registered her second Academic All-America accolade of her collegiate career. The Werribee, Victoria, Australia, native was named to the Academic All-America Second Team in 2017.

The two-time Big 12 Women's Track and Field Scholar-Athlete of the Year becomes the program's first student-athlete to garner first-team honors since Kelly Williams in 2016. Under coach Sean Cleary, the Mountaineer cross country/track and field programs have produced 18 Academic All-Americans since 2008, including five first-team selections.

"This is such a wonderful honor for Amy," Cleary said. "She finishes her collegiate career with a spot in the national finals, running to All-America honors and a school record in the steeplechase, all while performing at a level in the classroom that garners Academic All-America status. The CoSIDA Academic All-America award is considered to be the best of the best. Amy, and the rest of this group of seniors, led the program to a team GPA of 3.62, and we feel very fortunate to have such great ladies represent themselves so well."

Cashin has maintained a 4.0 grade point average (GPA) while pursuing a master's degree in counseling. She graduated with a bachelor's degree in sports and exercise psychology, with a double minor in psychology and athletic coaching, in 2017, boasting a cumulative GPA of 3.91.

Cashin is a three-time Academic All-District selection and became the Big 12's first back-to-back recipient of the Scholar-Athlete of the Year award for women's track and field on June 8.

The three-time member of the Women's Track and Field Academic All-Big 12 First Team, Cashin earned WVU's most prestigious student honor, the Order of Augusta Award, in 2017. She's also a recipient of the 2017 Dr. Gerald Lage Academic Achievement Award, the Big 12's highest academic honor, and has been featured on the Big 12 Commissioner's Honor Roll, Big 12 Academic All-Rookie Team, Garrett Ford Academic Honor Roll, President's List and Dean's List.

On the track, Cashin recorded her third career All-America distinction at the 2018 NCAA Division I Outdoor Track and Field Championships on June 7 in Eugene, Oregon. She finished 13th overall in the women's 3,000-meter steeplechase, earning All-America Second Team honors. With the performance, Cashin, who is the only Mountaineer woman to ever break the 10-minute barrier in the steeple, broke her own school record in the event, crossing the finish line in 9:58.75.

Cashin also garnered All-America Second Team honors at the 2018 NCAA Indoor Championships last March, as she placed ninth in the women's mile in 4:43.67. In 2017, she was named an All-America Third Team selection after her 19th-place finish in the steeplechase at the NCAA Outdoor Championships.

Cashin earned a silver medal in the steeplechase at the 2018 Big 12 Outdoor Championships on May 12, marking her seventh career All-Big 12 performance (indoor and outdoor) of her collegiate career. She's a three-time Big 12 runner-up in the steeplechase.
