MORGANTOWN, W.Va. – Rising senior Ginny Thrasher and junior Morgan Phillips return to Morgantown this fall as national champions, as the pair collected four national titles at the 2018 USA Shooting National Championships for Rifle and Pistol, held June 10-17, at the U.S. Army Marksmanship Unit in Fort Benning, Georgia.
 
Thrasher finished first in the women's 50m 3 positions rifle competition, while Phillips captured the junior title. A native of Salisbury, Maryland, Phillips also finished first overall in the junior division in the women's 50m rifle prone.
 
A native of Springfield, Virginia, Thrasher's victory followed a tight battle, as she entered the final on June 16 in a three-way tie, boasting a two-day score of 2338 (1171, 1167). Thrasher shot 455.0 in the final, the second-best total, earned seven additional points and pushed her final mark to a winning 2345.
 
Phillips, the two-time defending NCAA smallbore champion, entered the women's 3 positions final in fourth place with a two-day score of 2337 (1171, 1166). She shot 408.6 in the final, earning three additional points, and finished fourth overall with a 2340 mark. In the junior competition, Phillips' two-day score was good enough for first place entering the final, where she shot 453.0, earned eight additional points and captured the title with a 2345 final score.
 
Rising sophomore Sarah Osborn finished fourth in the junior women's 50m 3 positions with a mark of 2318. She entered the final in fourth place with a two-day score of 2316 (1166, 1150) and remained in that position after shooting 395.1 in the final, good enough for two additional points.
 
Osborn's two-day score was good enough for 12th place in the open competition.
 
On June 14, Phillips won her first two medals of the championships, finishing first overall and in the junior division in the women's 50m rifle prone, a non-Olympic event, with a two-day score of 1243.9 (620.9, 623.0).
 
Thrasher opened the championships with a third-place finish in the women's 10m air rifle on June 12. The reigning Olympic champion, she entered the final in fourth place with a two-day score of 1247.0 (621.7, 625.3). Thrasher finished first in the final with a 246.6 mark, good enough for four additional points, and earned her podium finish with a 1251.0 total.
 
Osborn finished sixth overall with a 1247.0 final total. A native of Hampton, Virginia, she qualified for the final with a 1245.5 mark (623.4, 622.1) and earned 1.5 additional points with a 162.4 showing in the final.
 
Osborn's two-day air rifle score was the top qualifying mark for the junior final, where she shot 164.0, earned 1.5 additional points and placed second with a 1247.0 total.
 
Phillips finished 21st overall in the women's 10m air rifle with a two-day score of 1235.6 (616.3, 619.3).
 
On the men's side, rising senior Will Anti placed 14th in the 10m air rifle on June 16 with a two-day score of 1228.6 (611.4, 617.2). He also finished 21st in the 50m rifle 3 positions on June 12 with a score of 2285 (1144, 1141).
