Redshirt senior Amy Cashin placed second in the women's 3,000-meter steeplechase at Baylor's Clyde Hart Track and Field Stadium, while redshirt junior Madelin Gardner finished fourth in the women's pole vault. Redshirt senior Meghan Jean-Baptiste also wrapped up competition in the heptathlon, finishing seventh overall.
Cashin earned the silver medal in the 3,000-meter steeplechase for the third consecutive season after crossing the finish line in 10:00.04, the second-fastest time of her collegiate career. With the performance, the Werribee, Victoria, Australia, native earned her seventh career trip to the Big 12 podium (indoor and outdoor).
"Amy has been the most consistent steeplechaser in the Big 12 over the past four years," WVU coach Sean Cleary said. "Finishes of 3-2-2-2 show how special her career has been. Missing the win over the last two strides was heartbreaking tonight, but this experience should help her greatly over the next few weeks."
Gardner led a group of five Mountaineers in the pole vault competition, earning her second outdoor conference accolade in as many seasons. The Williamstown, West Virginia, native jumped 4.24 meters (13 feet, 11 inches) in a fourth-place finish.
"Maddie got a huge gorilla off her back with her performance," Cleary said. "We feel she still has more in her, but we're very proud that she brought her best tonight and will return home with her highest conference finish to date. The rest of the vaulters had a nice night that we should all be very proud of."
Joining Gardner in the event were redshirt senior Sara Finfrock, who finished 13th with a mark of 3.89 meters (12 feet, 9 inches), freshman Ellie Gardner, who took 18th place with a jump of 3.59 meters (12 feet, 3.25 inches) and freshman Mikayla Shute, who also cleared 3.59 meters in a 21st-place finish. Senior Rebekah Lafata also competed in the event for West Virginia.
After competing in the first four events of the heptathlon on Friday, Jean-Baptiste closed the competition with the final three events on Saturday. The Fairfax, Virginia, native finished fourth in the long jump (5.58 meters – 18 feet, 3.75 inches), before placing 10th in the javelin (22.88 meters – 75 feet, 1 inch) and 800 meters (2:39.25), respectively.
Jean-Baptiste finished in seventh place overall, earning a career-best 4,751 points – the fifth-most in program history.
"Meg cemented her career with her first All-Big 12 performance," Cleary said. "This was a clutch performance in the final track meet of her career. What a wonderful way to close the book on this part of her life."
Additionally, redshirt sophomore Candace Jones placed 13th in the 1,500-meter prelims in 4:35.26, while redshirt senior Rebecca Wendt placed 24th in the 800-meter prelims (2:18.25). Freshman McKenna Smith competed in a pair of events on Saturday, finishing 18th in the 400-meter prelims (55.51) and 22nd in the 200-meter prelims (24.73).
WVU began the three-day conference meet on Friday, as redshirt sophomore Olivia Hill claimed the team's first all-conference performance of the weekend. Hill placed seventh in the women's 10,000 meters in 36:56.18.
