Redshirt sophomore Olivia Hill paced the Mountaineers, earning a seventh-place finish in the women's 10,000-meter run at Baylor's Clyde Hart Track and Field Stadium. Hill battled heat and humidity, crossing the finish line in 36:56.18 to secure a place on the podium. Redshirt freshman Antigone Archer also competed in the 10,000 meters on Friday.
"Olivia grinded this one out for the first All-Big 12 performance of her career," WVU coach Sean Cleary said. "The conditions were atrocious for a 10k. She will learn a great deal from tonight and set her sights even higher in the future."
Earlier in the day, redshirt senior Meghan Jean-Baptiste competed in the first four events of the heptathlon. The Fairfax, Virginia, native took fifth in the high jump (1.64 meters – 5 feet, 4.5 inches), sixth in the 100-meter hurdles (personal-best 14.18), seventh in the 200 meters (25.43) and eighth in the shot put (9.86 meters – 32 feet, 4.25 inches).
Jean-Baptiste sits in sixth place in the overall competition with 3,104 points.
"Meg had a near-perfect day," Cleary said. "She came out, brought her complete focus and executed very well. Should she do that again tomorrow, she will leave the meet very happy."
Action at the 2018 Big 12 Outdoor Championship continues Saturday with events scheduled to begin at 11 a.m. ET. The three-day meet concludes on Sunday, beginning at 3:30 p.m.
