The three-day competition at Baylor's Clyde Hart Track and Field Stadium is set to begin on Friday at 12 p.m. ET, while events begin on Saturday at 11 a.m. The meet concludes on Sunday, beginning at 3:30 p.m.
Live stats of the championship are available at deltatiming.com. FloTrack also will provide a live video stream of the meet at flotrack.org. Additional information, including the meet schedule and heat sheets, can be found at the event's meet central.
"These are the types of meets that all track and field athletes train for all year," WVU coach Sean Cleary said. "School is out, which means the championship season is upon us. We are looking forward to seeing how some of our very best kids compete against their peers in what looks like an incredible arena. While the track Gods have been unkind to us these past few weeks, resulting in some of our top athletes not putting on the uniform this weekend, we will go out and compete at the highest levels of our ability. Our kids are pumped up to leave their best on the track."
Three Big 12 women's programs rank in the top 25 of the United States Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) national rankings, including No. 12 Texas, No. 16 Kansas State and No. 19 Texas Tech. Eight of the conference's 10 teams are listed in the nation's top 50, including West Virginia, which ranks No. 47 this week.
WVU features seven student-athletes ranked in the top seven of the Big 12 in their respective events, including redshirt senior Amy Cashin and redshirt junior Madelin Gardner, who sit atop the conference in the women's 3,000-meter steeplechase and women's pole vault, respectively.
Cashin broke her own WVU school record in the 3,000-meter steeplechase at the 2018 Penn Relays on April 26 (9:59.40), and enters the weekend ranked No. 9 nationally in the event. The Werribee, Victoria, Australia, native also sits No. 2 in the league in the 1,500-meter run and seventh in the 5,000-meter run.
Gardner took down her previous WVU-best jump in the pole vault at the Virginia Challenge on April 20. A native of Williamstown, West Virginia, Gardner earned a mark of 4.41 meters (14 feet, 5.50 inches). The performance ranks No. 6 nationally.
The Mountaineers earned seven All-Big 12 honors at last year's Big 12 Outdoor Championship in Lawrence, Kansas. Cashin led the way with a silver medal in the 3,000-meter steeplechase, while junior Danique Bryan took the bronze in the women's triple jump. Bryan also placed seventh in the women's long jump at the conference meet a year ago.
Additionally, redshirt senior Maggie Drazba took fourth in the women's 10,000-meter run at the 2017 Big 12 Outdoor Championship, while senior Shamoya McNeil placed sixth in the triple jump. Megan Yuan finished seventh in the 3,000-meter steeplechase and Gardner placed eighth in the pole vault competition.
WVU last won a Big 12 individual championship in 2015, when Kaitlyn Gillespie won the 10,000-meter run in 33:45.56.
Last week, West Virginia closed the regular season with four pole vaulters competing at the Jim Thorpe Open on May 4, in University Park, Pennsylvania. Before that, WVU earned seven top-five finishes at the Virginia Grand Prix on April 28, in Charlottesville, Virginia.
