Cashin won a pair of events last week, including one in school-record fashion. The Werribee, Victoria, Australia, native won the women's 3,000-meter steeplechase at the 2018 Penn Relays, on April 26, in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, earning a school-record time of 9:59.40.
Two days later, Cashin was victorious in the women's 1,500 meters at the Virginia Grand Prix, on April 28, in Charlottesville, Virginia. She crossed the finish line in 4:21.56 in the win.
Cashin's performance at the prestigious Penn Relays topped her previous WVU-best time in the 3,000-meter steeplechase of 10:01.19 from 2017. She became the first Mountaineer to break the 10-minute barrier in the event and finished with the fourth-fastest time in Penn Relays history.
The result ranks No. 1 in the Mid-Atlantic Region and Big 12 Conference this outdoor season. It also ranks No. 8 nationally.
At Virginia, Cashin took down a field of 28 runners in the 1,500 meters, marking her first win in the event this outdoor season.
The weekly conference honor is Cashin's third of the track and field season. She was named the Big 12 Female Track and Field Athlete of the Week twice during the indoor season, on Jan. 24 and Feb. 21, becoming the program's first Big 12 weekly track and field award winner (indoor or outdoor) since the Mountaineers joined the conference in 2012-13.
The honor is Cashin's fourth total Big 12 weekly distinction this school year. She previously was named the conference's cross country Female Runner of the Week on Sept. 12, 2017.
WVU closes the 2018 outdoor regular season on Friday, May 4, at the Billy Hayes Invitational, in Bloomington, Indiana. From there, the Mountaineers are set to travel to Waco, Texas, for the Big 12 Outdoor Track and Field Championship, from May 11-13.
