Mountaineers Cap Day One at Bucknell

MORGANTOWN, W.Va. – The West Virginia University track and field team began competition at the Bison Outdoor Classic, in Lewisburg, Pennsylvania, on Saturday.

In the squad's first action since March 31, the Mountaineers participated in five events and earned a pair of top-10 finishes on the first of the two-day competition at Bucknell University's Christy Mathewson-Memorial Stadium. Junior Faith Penny led the way with a sixth-place finish in the women's high jump.
Penny earned an outdoor career-best-tying mark of 1.66 meters (5 feet, 5.25 inches) in the event. Redshirt freshman Kyrielle Williams also notched a top-10 finish in the high jump, registering a mark of 1.62 meters (5 feet, 3.75 inches) to tie for 10th.
On the track, redshirt sophomore Candace Jones placed 16th in the women's 1,500 meters, crossing the finish line in 4:28.99. Redshirt sophomore Sarah Wills (4:35.81) and redshirt senior Maggie Drazba (4:36.17) finished 35th and 37th, respectively.
Additionally, redshirt senior Rebecca Wendt earned a 19th-place finish in the women's 1,500 meters (unseeded), earning a time of 4:48.02, while redshirt sophomore Krista-Gay Taylor finished in a tie for 21st place in the high jump (1.57 meters – 5 feet, 1.75 inches). In the women's 5,000 meters, freshman Bree Warren took 31st place in 17:23.32, while redshirt senior Meghan Jean-Baptiste competed in the women's javelin throw.
The Mountaineers are joined by Army West Point, Buffalo, Cornell, Duquesne, Lehigh, Penn, Penn State, Pitt, Syracuse and others at Bucknell this weekend. In all, over a dozen Division I programs are competing at the meet.
Competition at the Bison Outdoor Classic concludes on Sunday, with events set to begin at 10:30 a.m. ET. Live stats are available at results.leonetiming.com. Additionally, FloTrack will provide a live video stream of the meet at flotrack.org.
