WVU Falters at No. 25 Baylor

Morgantown, W.Va. – The West Virginia University women's tennis team continued Big 12 play on the road Friday evening, faltering to No. 25 Baylor, 4-0, at the Hurd Tennis Center, in Waco, Texas.
"We had positives today, as well as things that we need to learn from," fifth-year coach Miha Lisac said.
WVU (7-10, 1-5 Big 12) started Friday's contest by dropping the doubles point, as BU took two of the three matches to take an early 1-0 lead. On the first court, Christina Jordan and Sofia Duran fell to No. 80 Kris Sorokolet and Jessica Hinojosa. The Lady Bears then claimed the doubles point when their tandem of Giorgia Testa and Camilla Abbate defeated Giovanna Caputo and Anne-Sophie Courteau, 6-2, at No. 3.
Of note, the third doubles match between Lyn Yuen Choo and Paula Goetz and BU's Angie Shakhraichuk and Dominika Sujova was abandoned due to clinch rules.
The Lady Bears would then win the first three singles matches, capturing the overall contest by a score of 4-0.
At No. 4, Goetz fell to Kraus, 6-1, in straight sets. Courteau also lost to Hinojosa, 6-1 and 6-3, on the second court, as the Lady Bears took a commanding 3-0 lead over the Mountaineers.
Skakhraichuk clinched the match for Baylor, defeating Duran, 6-4 and 6-2, on the fifth court to give Baylor the 4-0 win.
The matches at No. 1, No. 3 and No. 6 also were abandoned due to clinch rules.
"We are playing Texas on Sunday and that is an outstanding opportunity for us to show what we have taken from today's match, the good things to build upon and the mistakes we are learning from," Lisac said.
Up next, WVU will square off with No. 5 Texas. First serve from the new Texas Tennis Center is set for 2:30 p.m. ET. Sunday's contest will be televised live on the Longhorn Network and can be streamed through the WatchESPN and the ESPN app. Live stats also will be available here.
