The action begins Friday at 2 p.m. ET, at the Boston University Track and Tennis Center in Boston, while the two-day meet at the Chris Cline Indoor Athletic Complex in Huntington starts at 5 p.m. Saturday's events at Marshall get underway at 9 a.m. Live stats will be available for both meets. Additionally, FloTrack.org will provide an online stream of the David Hemery Invite.
"For the entire program, this is the last big opportunity to get out there and perform what we've been doing in practice," WVU coach Sean Cleary said. "We're going to split the group, we don't do it often, but we will this weekend. We'll take a few kids up to Boston, some of whom are ready for the type of competition we feel they'll get up there. And, of course, the kids going down to Marshall have an amazing opportunity to compete. We just want to keep seeing things progress and flow. Hopefully, we'll emerge from this with two good weeks to focus on training for the Big 12 Championship."
Redshirt seniors Amy Cashin and Maggie Drazba, as well as redshirt sophomore Candace Jones and redshirt freshman Sarah Wills, will make the trip to Boston to compete against a field of more than 90 teams.
WVU also will be one of 12 schools competing at the Marshall Invitational, which includes Belmont, Eastern Kentucky, Fort Wayne, Marshall, Morehead State, Northern Kentucky, Ohio, SIU-Edwardsville, UNC-Asheville, Wright State and Winthrop. The meet marks the second straight season and the third time in four years in which the Mountaineers compete at Marshall.
Last time out, the Mountaineers earned 10 top-five finishes at the 14th annual Akron Invitational, from Feb. 2-3, in Akron, Ohio. WVU saw victories in the women's triple jump gold division by Shamoya McNeil, women's 400 meters blue division by freshman McKenna Smith and the women's pole vault blue division by senior Sara Finfrock.
McNeil earned a season-best mark of 12.82 meters (42 feet, 0.75 inches) to win the triple jump competition, while Smith crossed the finish line in 57.08 to take the 400 meters. Finfrock was part of a three-way tie for first in the pole vault (blue division) with a mark of 3.83 meters (12 feet, 6.75 inches).
Additionally, redshirt junior Madelin Gardner broke the indoor school record in the women's pole vault gold division with a second-place mark of 4.37 meters (14 feet, 4 inches). The Williamstown, West Virginia, native topped her own indoor record mark of 4.15 meters, which was set on Dec. 2, 2017, at the Marty Pushkin Track Classic in Morgantown.
Eight members of the Mountaineers appear in this week's United States Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) Mid-Atlantic Regional rankings. Three student-athletes – Cashin (women's mile), McNeil (women's triple jump) and Gardner (women's pole vault) – are ranked first in their respective events.
WVU ranks sixth in this week's Mid-Atlantic Regional team rankings.
Friday's action marks the Mountaineers' fifth consecutive weekend meet, including their fourth straight on the road.
