MORGANTOWN, W.Va. – The West Virginia University rowing team wraps up its fall season on Friday, Nov. 9, when it hosts Duquesne in Morgantown for a team scrimmage on the Monongahela River.
"We have become regular scrimmage partners with Duquesne over the past few years due to the proximity of our programs to each other," said coach
Jimmy King. "These joint workouts are very beneficial to both teams this time of year, and we're certainly eager to compete at home in front of our family and friends."
Friday's scrimmage is set to begin at 10 a.m. ET, with all crews launching from the WVU boathouse in the Wharf District of Morgantown, approximately three miles upstream from the Star City docks, which will serve as both a finish and starting line.
Two flights of eight will compete in multiple races back-and-forth along the three-mile stretch between the WVU boathouse and the Star City docks. All races are expected to be rate-controlled, with all crews rowing the same number of strokes per minute within each race.
Select members of the WVU rowing team will be on-hand to meet with spectators at the Star City docks for the duration of Friday's action against the Dukes.
Following the conclusion of the scrimmage, West Virginia will hold a ceremony at the WVU Boathouse at 12:30 p.m. ET, to christen a new four-oared shell that was generously provided by Joseph and Sharon Older.
Friday's scrimmage marks the second time the Mountaineers have competed against the Dukes this fall. This season marks the sixth consecutive season WVU has competed against Duquesne.
