
WVU Complete Day One in Louisville

MORGANTOWN, W.Va. – The West Virginia University tennis team opened competition at the Louisville Tennis Classic by claiming eight overall wins, including three from senior Abigail Rosiello on Friday in Louisville, Kentucky.
"We had a solid day of matches and some good performances in singles and doubles," said coach Miha Lisac. "We will take the good things from today and build upon them in tomorrow's matches."
Doubles Recap
WVU opened with doubles action when it squared off against host Louisville in the morning session of Friday's tournament opener. Junior Christina Jordan and freshman Anastasiia Bovolskaia dropped their first match to Aleksandra Mally and Raven Neely, 3-6. Sophomores Anne-Sophie Courteau and Giovanna Caputo also fell to Diana Wong and Nikolina Jovic, 4-6.
Despite the two losses, junior Sofia Duran and Rosiello secured the first win of the day for the Mountaineers when they defeated Sena Suswam and Dina Chaika, 6-3.
Following the matchup with Louisville, WVU went toe-to-toe with Marquette. After dropping their first match against, Courteau and Caputo bounced back by defeating Lesley Foe and Alexandrina Chinikova, 6-3. Duran and Rosiello also would capture a win against Marquette, their second of the day, when they bested Milica Novakovic and Isabella Franks, 6-1.
Jordan and Bovolskaia fell in their second match to Marquette's Fleur Eggink and Elisabeth Desmarais, 1-6.
On the day, the Mountaineers went 1-2 against the Cardinals and 2-1 against the Golden Eagles for an overall 3-3 doubles record.

Singles Recap
The Mountaineers squared off in singles against the Miami (Ohio) RedHawks in the afternoon session of Friday's tournament opener. Jordan kicked off singles play for WVU but fell to the RedHawks' Emily Struble in straight sets, 2-6, 3-6.
West Virginia went on to claim three straight singles wins. Bovolskaia claimed a two-set victory, 6-3, 7-5, over Miami's Melati Devi. Caputo also recorded a two-set win for the Mountaineers, defeating Milana Lysova, 6-4, 7-5.
Playing in the No. 4 slot, Courteau claimed the third singles win of the day for WVU, besting Priyana Kalita in a super tiebreaker, 1-6, 7-5, 10-2.
Making her season debut, Duran fell to Lena Babunski in three sets, 6-3, 3-6, 8-10.
Rosiello capped singles play on Friday by claiming WVU's fourth singles win, its seventh overall on the day, by defeating Janelle Ghanem in a super tiebreaker, 2-6, 6-4, 10-2.

Saturday Tournament Preview
The Mountaineers resume tournament action on Saturday with doubles matches against Miami at 10 a.m. They also will square off against Marquette at 11 a.m.
In singles play, West Virginia is scheduled to take on host Louisville at noon and 1:30 p.m.
