MORGANTOWN, W.Va.
– Fresh off a season-opening win over Coppin State on Tuesday, the West Virginia University women's basketball team returns to the WVU Coliseum on Sunday to host NJIT in a 2 p.m. tipoff.

The ticket office is open Monday through Friday, 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. and 90 minutes prior to tipoff on game days.
Please note there are adjusted ticket prices for the 2018-19 season. Single game tickets are $5 each and $3 for groups of 10 or more when purchased in advance at WVUGAME.com. At the WVU Coliseum ticket window, tickets will be $7 for adults, $5 for youth and seniors and $3 for groups. The discounted online pricing will be available until tip-off of the game. Dan Zangrilli and
Ayana Dunning will have the radio call on the Mountaineer Sports Network from IMG on Jack-FM 100.9, as well as various affiliates across the state, WVUsports.com and the TuneIn Radio app. A free live stream will be available at WVUSports.com.
"(These games feature) all kinds of experimentation," coach
Mike Carey said. "I need to get a rotation, and I need to so what's our best combination right now. All of a sudden, you don't have some of the players and now you need to find a new combination. I've been wanting, even early, to go to the bigger lineup. Now, it's forcing me to. That's probably good, so we'll see how good we can be with a bigger lineup as opposed to a smaller lineup."
The Mountaineers claimed a 78-37 season-opening win over Coppin State on Tuesday, marking WVU's fifth straight season-opening win, dating back to 2014. Redshirt junior
Tynice Martin returned to the court for the first time since March 19, 2017, after missing the 2017-18 season due to injury. Martin led the team with 24 points and had 11 rebounds for her second career double-double in her return.
Senior guard/forward
Naomi Davenport had 13 points, 13 rebounds and 10 assists for the first Mountaineer triple-double in more than 31 years. She is the first Mountaineer to register a triple-double since Dionne Morris did so in December 1987, and joins an elite club as just five WVU players have combined to record six triple-doubles all-time: Davenport, Morris, Jean Mewshaw (1976), J.D. Drummonds (1980) and Georgeann Wells, who recorded two triple-doubles in 1985.
Three freshmen saw their collegiate debuts on Tuesday: guard
Madisen Smith, who saw her first career start; and forwards
Jala Jordan and
Kari Niblack. Coincidentally, the last true freshman to earn a start in her collegiate debut is current senior
Katrina Pardee, started her career debut against Delaware State in 2015. Smith finished with five points, four rebounds and a steal, while Niblack had five points and six rebounds in her first college game, seeing 16 minutes of action. Jordan saw nine minutes of play, recording a steal, one point and three rebounds.
NJIT enters Sunday's game with a 0-2 record after falling to Howard, 77-57, on Friday. The Highlanders also dropped their season-opener at Saint Peter's by a score of 70-57. Danielle Tunstall and Kelly Guarino are averaging a team-best 13.5 points per game through two contests this season, while Tunstall also leads the rebounding at 9.5 boards per game. Coach Mike Lane is in his first season at the helm of NJIT. Lane previously served as an assistant at Bucknell, who WVU faced in the first round of the 2018 Postseason WNIT.
Next up, West Virginia will host Bryant on Thursday, Nov. 15. In celebration of Education Day, the contest will tipoff at a special time of 10 a.m. inside the WVU Coliseum.
