WVU Closes Tournament Finale

MORGANTOWN, W.Va. – Led by three singles wins in the tournament finale, the West Virginia University tennis team concluded the Martha Thorn Mountaineer Invitational on Sunday at the Summit Tennis Academy in Morgantown.
"It was a good weekend of competitive situations," said coach Miha Lisac. "Every player has positive things they can take away from the weekend and build upon going into two weekends of work and then a tournament at Louisville."

WVU took to the courts to square off against Duquesne to close out Sunday's tournament finale.
Sophomore Anne-Sophie Courteau began singles action for the Mountaineers, falling to Duquesne's Julianne Herman in two sets, 1-6, 2-6. Junior Christina Jordan also fell in two sets, 3-6, 4-6, to Duquesne's Maranda Sears.
Despite the two losses to open singles play, sophomore Giovanna Caputo and freshman Anastasiia Bovolskaia locked down wins for WVU. Caputo bested Duquesne's Laurel Shymansky in two sets, 6-3, 7-5. Sweeping the second set, Bovolskaia defeated Duquesne's Maddy Adams, 7-5, 6-0.
Senior Kirsten White dropped her match to Duquesne's Miranda Bishard in two sets, 6-5, 6-1.
To finish the day, senior Abigail Rosiello clinched a come-from-behind, tie-breaking victory over Duquesne's Priyanka Mitta. The Morgantown, West Virginia native won in three sets, 1-6, 6-1, 10-7.
