WVU Hosts Four Teams for Martha Thorn Invite
October 18, 2018 02:04 PM | Tennis
MORGANTOWN, W.Va. – The West Virginia University tennis team will compete in its annual Martha Thorn Invitational on Oct. 19-21 at the Summit Tennis Academy in Morgantown, West Virginia.
The Mountaineers will welcome Akron, Cleveland State, Delaware and Duquesne to Morgantown this weekend to compete in singles and doubles matches over the course of the three-day tournament. Due to impending cold conditions, this year's tournament has been relocated from the Mountaineer Tennis Courts to off-campus, indoor courts.
"It's another weekend, but this time it's a little different, because we get to stay at home and compete," coach Miha Lisac said. "It's another weekend of competition where we get a chance to work through a lot of competitive situations. We get a chance to continue the work that the players have been doing from the Virginia Tech tournament to the (ITA) Regionals to the current tournament. It's nice to be able to stay at home, but we don't approach it any differently because of that."
This year's tournament is set up using a hidden duel format, with tournament action set to open at 8 a.m. ET each day. Tournament action will begin on Friday, with WVU competing in singles action at 8 a.m., while doubles action will begin at 12 p.m.
On Saturday, West Virginia will begin the day with doubles action at 12 p.m. and begin singles action at 1:30 p.m.
The Mountaineers are slated to compete in one round of singles action on Sunday at 12 p.m.
