
WVU Completes Day One at ITA Regionals

MORGANTOWN, W.Va. – Highlighted by freshman Anastasiia Bovolskaia's 2-0 performance in singles play, the West Virginia University women's tennis team completed day one of the Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) Atlantic Regionals on Friday afternoon, held on Liberty's campus at the Cook Tennis Complex, in Lynchburg, Virginia.
"It is good to have everyone back in action today," said coach Miha Lisac. "Our goals for the tournament are to improve through competitive situations and compete better than last weekend. We had good performances today in singles and doubles that we can build upon tomorrow."

In Flight A, Bovolskaia turned in a solid showing for the squad, as she secured two victories over Georgetown's Elena De Santis, 6-4, 7-5, and Old Dominion's Louie McLelland, 7-5, 6-2.
Additionally, sophomore Anne-Sophie Courteau dropped her first-round match in straight sets, 5-7, 2-6, to Marshall's Victoria Walter. Paula Goetz was defeated by Marshall's Elizabeth Stefancic, 2-6, 2-6, and sophomore Giovanna Caputo fell to Richmond's Kiana Marshall, 6-3, 2-6, 2-6.
In the consolations, Georgetown's Sara Grubac defeated Goetz, as she retired on court six to conclude her play at ITA's. Navy's Kaylah Hodge also defeated Courteau, 6-3, 5-7, 12-10, in a third-set tiebreaker. Despite the two losses, Caputo bested Delaware's Adetayo Adetunji in three sets, 3-6, 6-2, 10-6, to advance to the quarterfinals.
Friday's singles action was capped off with another victory from Courteau, as she cruised past Radford's Katey Fruehauf in straight sets (7-6 (4), 6-3). Courteau's win was the fifth singles win of the day for the Mountaineers.

Courteau and junior Christina Jordan claimed another doubles victory for the Mountaineers, as they defeated Pitt's Claudia Bartolome and Clara Lucas, 8-5, to conclude doubles play.

Saturday Tournament Preview
Singles action will begin at 9 a.m. on Saturday, when Jordan squares off against VCU's Anna Rasmussen. Bovolskaia also will go toe-to-toe with Pitt's Gabriela Rezende in a quarterfinal showdown.
Caputo will round out singles action, as she takes on Liberty's Grace Hashiguchi in the consolation bracket.
Doubles action will begin at 1 p.m., when Courteau and Jordan go head-to-head with VCU's Anna Rasmussen and Marina Alcaide Bakkari. Bovolskaia and Caputo also will square off against Penn State's Shannon Hanley and Samantha Smith.
