
Bovolskaia Propels WVU in Main Draw

MORGANTOWN, W.Va. – Freshman Anastasiia Bovolskaia propelled the West Virginia University women's tennis team to the second round of the singles main draw at the Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) Atlantic Regionals, held on Liberty's campus at the Cook Tennis Complex, in Lynchburg, Virginia, on Saturday afternoon.
"We had good competitive situations to learn from today, and we definitely had more positive things to draw from," said coach Miha Lisac. "Tomorrow is another day of singles competition that will allow us to get better again."

In the Division I bracket, Bovolskaia claimed her third singles win of the weekend in a two-set victory, 6-2, 6-3, over Duquesne's Julianne Herman. With the win, Bovolskaia advances to the second round of the main draw, marking the third consecutive season a Mountaineer has advanced to the second round.
Additionally, in the Division I bracket, junior Christina Jordan dropped her first-round match in two sets, 6-2, 6-3, to VCU's Anna Rasmussen.

In the Division I bracket, Penn State's Shannon Hanley and Samantha Smith defeated Bovolskaia and sophomore Giovanna Caputo in a tiebreaker, 8-7 (7). Jordan and sophomore Anne-Sophie Courteau fell to VCU's Anna Rasmussen and Marina Alcaide Bakkari, 8-1, to conclude WVU's doubles play at ITA's.
