Mountaineers Prepped for Cyclones

MORGANTOWN, W.Va. – Looking to end a two-game skid, the No. 12/11 West Virginia women's basketball team will host Iowa State in Big 12 action on Sunday in a 2 p.m. tip at the WVU Coliseum.
The game will be Wellness Day, as well as Family Day. Fans are invited to attend a free pregame yoga class the court and will receive free admission to the game with a yoga mat. As part of Family Day, fans can purchase four tickets and a $15 concession voucher for $25 dollars. General admission tickets are available for $5 or at a cost of $3 for youths/seniors and groups of $10 or more. Tickets can be purchased at WVUGAME.com, by calling 1-800-WVU-GAME or at the Mountaineer Ticket Office located at the Gold Gate of the WVU Coliseum.
AT&T SportsNet Pittsburgh will carry the game with Robby Incmikoski and Meg Bulger on the call. Dan Zangrilli and Ayana Dunning will have the call for the Mountaineer Sports Network from IMG. Fans can listen on Jack-FM 100.9 in the Morgantown/Fairmont area, as well as WVUsports.com, the WVU Gameday app, the TuneIn Radio App and various affiliates across the state.
The Mountaineers will face Iowa State for the 12th time in program history on Sunday, taking a 7-4 lead in the overall series and a 6-4 lead in Big 12 play into the contest. The first meeting between the two came in nonconference play with WVU winning a 64-53 contest in 2010. WVU is 3-2 against the Cyclones at the WVU Coliseum.
The last matchup between the two was on Feb. 18, 2017, in Ames, Iowa, where the Cyclones won the contest, 68-53. Tynice Martin had 15 points, while Teana Muldrow netted 11 points and a pair of steals as the Mountaineers shot 32 percent and made three 3-pointers.
The 2017-18 season will mark the ninth time in 12 contests that at least one team has been nationally ranked as the Mountaineers rank at No. 12/11 in the polls. WVU has been ranked on five occasions, while Iowa State has been ranked five times as well. Both teams were ranked inside the top 25 in 2014, when No. 20 WVU defeated No. 23 ISU, 67-56. WVU was ranked inside the top 10 once, back in 2010.
West Virginia is coming off a 60-52 loss to K-State on Wednesday. It marked WVU's first home loss since Feb. 4, 2017, when the Mountaineers fell to Iowa State and was just the second setback of the season for the Mountaineers. Muldrow notched her ninth 20-point performance of the season and the 19th of her career with 25 points. She also secured 10 rebounds for her eighth double-double of the season and the 18th of her career. Muldrow ranks second in the league in scoring and rebounding and is third in minutes played. Junior guard Katrina Pardee grabbed a career-best nine rebounds.
Senior guard Chania Ray dished out a team-high seven assists, marking the seventh time this season she has registered at least five assists in a game. The Mountaineers shot 30 percent from the field - their lowest shooting percentage of the season and went 12-for-15 at the free-throw line for a season-high 80 percent.
"As poor as the shooting was, I thought (we only had) maybe two or three bad shots," WVU coach Mike Carey said. "They have the green light to take those shots. I thought there were maybe two or three bad shots. Normally, they hit a lot of those."

Bridget Carleton paces the team with 18.9 points per game and also leads the Cyclones with 3.8 assists per game and 35 total steals. Kristin Scott averages a team-best 7.1 rebounds per game and boasts a team-high 17 blocks this season.
