MORGANTOWN, W.Va. – Following a seven-week break in action, the West Virginia University swimming and diving teams travel to TCU for a Big 12 Conference dual meet on Saturday, Jan. 13, in Fort Worth, Texas.
The meet is set for 1 p.m. ET, at the TCU Rec Center, and marks the Mountaineers' first competition since Nov. 17-19.
"It's the start of our championship season, so each opportunity is a chance to get better and improve for Big 12s," WVU coach Vic Riggs said. "The teams haven't competed since the Ohio State Invitational due to the postponement of our meet last weekend. After a long and successful training period, I know they're ready to compete.
"TCU is coming off a successful mid-season meet as well, so they will be ready, too. These are always exciting meets, and we'll have to swim and dive well to come home with a victory."
Saturday marks the sixth consecutive season WVU and TCU compete in a dual meet. The Mountaineers swept the Horned Frogs last season, as the men's team claimed a 194-106 win, while the women took down TCU by a score of 210-90. For the men, the victory was their fourth in a row over the Big 12 foe. For the women's squad, the win in 2017 marked the team's first-ever Big 12 dual-meet victory.
The women won 15 of 16 events against TCU last year, including three individual wins by then-freshman Morgan Bullock, while the men claimed 10 wins over the Horned Frogs.
Both of WVU's teams arrive in Fort Worth with 2-0 dual-meet records this season. The Mountaineers swept Seton Hall and Xavier at the Big 12 vs. Big East Weekend, on Oct. 27-28, at the WVU Natatorium.
TCU is led by first-year coach Sam Busch and comes in with dual-meet records of 2-1 (men) and 2-2 (women). Saturday is the Horned Frogs' third dual against a Big 12 opponent for the women, as the team fell to Kansas and Iowa State earlier in the year. For the men's team, Saturday marks its Big 12 season debut.
The Mountaineers last competed at the Ohio State Invitational on Nov. 17-19, posting 11 top-10 finishes at the three-day meet. The men's team finished in eighth place at the event, while the women took 11th.
WVU divers competed at Rutgers University's Frank Elm Invitational on Nov. 17-19 as well. Senior Michael Proietto won platform, finished second on 3-meter and claimed fourth on 1-meter during the competition.
