MORGANTOWN, W.Va. – The West Virginia University cross country team will kick off the 2017 season at the Lehigh Invitational in Bethlehem, Pennsylvania, on Friday, Sept. 1.
MEET INFO
The event is set to begin at 6:15 p.m. ET on the Mountain Hawks' Goodman Campus Cross Country Course (6k).
"We had a successful training camp, the kids have made the adjustment back into school and there's a number of them that are really ready to go," coach Sean Cleary said. "Like always, we're going to go and run and learn about the course. It's a phenomenal facility and always a fun trip. When we come back, we'll know a little more about ourselves and we'll get back to work."
Friday marks the second consecutive year and fourth out of the last five that the Mountaineers will compete at Lehigh. In 2016, WVU finished third out of 45 teams at the Paul Short Run, posting three top-18 finishes in a field of more than 400 runners.
WVU also claimed a first-place finish at the Lehigh Invitational in 2014.
Along with hosting this season's opening meet, Lehigh will also serve as the host to the 2017 NCAA Mid-Atlantic Regional, which will take place on Friday, Nov. 10.
In the 2017 USTFCCCA preseason regional rankings, West Virginia ranked fourth in the Mid-Atlantic Region. The Mountaineers were slotted No. 20 in FloTrack's 2017 FloXC Countdown and received votes in the preseason Division I Women's Cross Country Coaches' Poll.
