Favorite experience of your coaching career …
My favorite experience in my coaching career has been when players and parents have written me notes, emails and texts thanking me for investing in their daughters and knowing that I’ve made a difference in their lives not only as players but more importantly as strong women of great character.
The challenges of balancing family life and coaching …
One of the many challenges in balancing family life and a coaching career is creating a healthy balance. Communicating with my wife about schedules, making sure there is collaboration and creating margin in our lives is essential. We both work full-time jobs and we are beyond full-time parents of two busy young boys. It’s rewarding knowing that we can be great at both.
Daily life during the season …
During the season, it’s all about preparation. The mornings are filled with watching video and preparing scouting reports on opponents and our team. We meet as a staff to talk about practice and then I go about preparing the court and practice plan. We practice in the afternoon and then we meet again to evaluate how practice went and get some ideas about what’s next for the following day. We are always trying to get one percent better at a time in everything we do.
Goals for the season …
The immediate goals for this team this season are to prepare/teach them every day to become the best volleyball player, person and team they can be. It’s a process that leads to the big picture of becoming an NCAA Tournament team. Everything we do builds on one another so each step and moment is valuable and must be done totally committed to giving 100% effort.
The best part of being a Mountaineer…
My favorite part of being a Mountaineer is the pride that this community and state has for WVU. No matter what sport, club or department, being part of WVU is an amazing feeling.
