MORGANTOWN, W.Va. – West Virginia University men’s soccer coach Marlon LeBlanc has announced that eight student-athletes will join the program for the 2017 season.
The class consists of Rayan Bahri, Kevin Morris, Spenser Myers, Jorge Quintanilla, Cade Remy, Thomas Shepherd, Tsubasa Takada and Steven Tekesky.
The 2017 class features student-athletes from five states and two countries outside of the United States.
“This is an excellent recruiting class, one that we are very excited about and one that we believe will help us immediately in 2017,” LeBlanc said. “Expect a couple more additions in the coming weeks, but this is a group that, from top-to-bottom, adds great impact and depth to our program.”
The 2017 class also includes transfer Pascal Derwaritsch, who joined the team in January.
Rayan Bahri (Chelsea, Michigan)
Rayan Bahri comes to West Virginia from Chelsea, Michigan. A 6-foot-2 defender, he attends Chelsea High, where he is a team captain and was named to the All-District Team and the All-Regional Team in addition to earning team MVP honors and All-State Honorable Mention accolades. He plays club soccer for Vardar. Bahri attended the West Virginia University Soccer Collegiate Prep Academy in 2017.
Bahri intends to major in pre-law at WVU and attend law school. His parents are Mario and Narjisse, and he has one brother.
Kevin Morris (Sykesville, Maryland)
A Carroll County Times Player of the Year, Kevin Morris joins the Mountaineers from Mt. Airy, Maryland. He is a 6-foot-3 defender and attends South Carroll High and plays for SAC Premier. An NSCAA All-Region honoree in high school, Morris was a two-time team captain and First Team All-State honoree, as well as a three-time First Team All-County selection.
Morris plans to major in Mechanical Engineering at WVU. His parents are Melvin and Carrie, and he has one brother and sister. His father, Melvin, played soccer at Mount St. Mary’s.
Spenser Myers (Chicora, Pennsylvania)
A Chicora, Pennsylvania, native, Spenser Myers is a 5-foot-10 forward. He attends Karns City High School, where he is was a two-time team captain and three-time U.A.V.S.L League MVP. He holds the school record for the most goals in one season, with 64, and the most goals overall in four years, with 164. Myers’ club team is the Northern Steel Soccer Academy, where he was a four-time captain and helped the team win the 2016 Nike Cup. Myers was the Butler Eagle Player of the Year in 2013, becoming the first freshman ever to win the award. Myers also attended the West Virginia University Soccer Collegiate Prep Academy in 2016.
Myers looks to pursue a degree in Accounting at West Virginia. His parents are William and Billie Jo.
Jorge Quintanilla (Germantown, Maryland)
A 5-foot-6 midfielder, Jorge Quintanilla is a native of Germantown, Maryland. He joins West Virginia after two years at Louisburg College, where he helped his team win the 2015 NJCAA Championship. Quintanilla scored 28 goals and had 26 assists in his two years with the Hurricanes. He attended Quince Orchard High School and is a Disney Cup and Dallas Cup champion with the Olney Soccer Academy in Bethesda, Maryland.
Quintanilla will come to WVU as a junior and looks to study computer science. His parents are Jose and Maricela, and he has two sisters.
Cade Remy (Johnstown, Ohio)
Cade Remy comes to the Mountaineers from Johnstown, Ohio, and is a 5-foot-10 midfielder. He attends Northridge High and also plays for the Crew Soccer Academy. Remy is a three-time State Cup champion and has played in the Generation Adidas Tournament in three of four years with the Columbus Crew Soccer Academy. Remy also attended the West Virginia University Soccer Collegiate Prep Academy in 2017.
Remy intends to major in marketing at West Virginia. His parents are Keith and Pamela, and he has one brother.
Thomas Shepherd (Cheshire, England)
A forward from Cheshire, England, Thomas Shepherd is 6-foot-1 and attends Knutsford Academy and also played in the academy for Stoke City Football Club. As a youth player, Shepherd also made three appearances in the Football Association Youth Cup. A team captain of his high school team, Shepherd played on the district and county teams. He helped his Stoke City FC Academy team win the 2014 Generation Adidas Cup in Dallas, and has represented Wales on the U-17 and U-19 national teams.
Shepherd aspires to major in management at West Virginia. His parents are Nigel and Sally, and he has three sisters.
Tsubasa Takada (Narashino City, Japan)
From Narashino City, Japan, Tsubasa Takada is a 6-foot midfielder/forward. He attended Funabashi Multipal High, where his team won the 2016 All-Japan High School Soccer Tournament Summer Championship. Takada also help lead his team to two Chiba Prefecture Tournament championships in the summer and winter of 2016. Takada also attended the West Virginia University Soccer Collegiate Prep Academy in 2016.
At WVU, Takada looks to major in sport management. His parents are Satoshi and Aya, and he has one brother and sister.
Steven Tekesky (Raymore, Missouri)
A native of Raymore, Missouri, Steven Tekesky is a 6-foot goalkeeper, who attends Raymore-Peculiar High and also plays club soccer for Sporting Kansas City Academy. He helped his team win the Missouri state soccer championship in 2013 and ’14 and was the captain of the Sporting Kansas City U-18 Academy Team in 2015-16 and 16-17. Tekesky was one of 54 MLS Academy players selected for the Generation Adidas Elite Soccer Program event in Portland, Oregon. He was selected to the US U-16 Youth Futsal National Team, earning three appearances with the team in Toronto, Ontario. Tekesky has also been a reserve goalkeeper for the Swope Park Rangers USL franchise.
Tekesky plans to major in general business and work with professional soccer organization upon the conclusion of his career. His parents are Todd and Mary, and he has two sisters.
