MORGANTOWN, W.Va. – West Virginia University golf head coach Sean Covich announced Wednesday that Logan Perkins (Locust Grove, Ga./Strong Rock Christian) signed a National Letter Intent and will join the Mountaineers for the 2017-18 season.
Perkins joins Matt Sharpstene and Mark Goetz, both of whom signed with the team last fall.
“We are extremely excited to add Logan to our already strong class of 2017,” said Covich. “Logan will bring a lot of firepower to our team; he’s a gamer, loves to compete and has an enthusiasm for playing the game that will benefit the entire team.”
A native of Locust Grove, Georgia, Perkins ranks in the Top 200 nationally in the Junior Golf Scoreboard rankings, and is No. 110 in the nation for the class of 2017. He is the seventh-ranked player in the state of Georgia for the class of 2017. Perkins shot 68 to win the 2016 Georgia High School Association State Championship and carded a 67 on his way to a win at the 2016 GHSA Region Championship. Additionally, Perkins earned medalist honors at the 2016 Southeastern Junior Golf Tour Autotrader Invitational, the 2015 AJGA Junior at Chateau Elan and four Hurricane Junior Golf Tour events. He tied for fourth place at the 2016 Georgia Junior Boys Championship and was fifth at the 2017 Dustin Johnson World Junior at TPC Myrtle Beach.
The son of Tommy and Robyn Davis, Perkins has three siblings. He is undecided on a major.
West Virginia will wrap up the regular season this weekend when the team travels to State College, Pennsylvania, for the Rutherford Intercollegiate at the Penn State Blue Golf Course on Saturday and Sunday.
