MORGANTOWN, W.Va – The West Virginia University rowing team will continue the spring season with a dual race against Georgetown on Saturday, March 25, in Washington D.C..
Saturday’s contest will take place on the Potomac River, with all boats launching from the Thompson Boat Center. WVU fans in the Washington D.C. area are encouraged to watch the action on the boardwalk of the Washington Harbour in Georgetown, near the Thompson Boat Center.
“This weekend's racing serves as another key step in our team's development,” coach Jimmy King said. “Since racing two weeks ago we missed a week of water due to weather and have been mixing line-ups a bit more than we normally might due to illnesses and class schedules. Now that the race weekend is upon us, we need to make sure we don't get caught up in what we didn't do and focus on what we can and will do. If we can do that, we'll have fun racing this weekend.”
The first varsity eights will open the event, when they launch at 8:15 a.m. The Mountaineers will then have a 30 minute rest period, as the second varsity eights will begin at 8:45 a.m.
Following another brief break, the varsity fours compete against their Hoya counterparts at 9:15 a.m. The third varsity eight boats will close out the race between the Hoyas and the Mountaineers. The final piece will commence at 9:30 a.m.
“The novice have made many improvements since spring break training and we are looking forward to seeing their progression over the past few weeks reflected in the racing.” assistant coach Tina Griffith said.
Georgetown will also take on Harvard twice during Saturday’s contest. The two will compete at 8:30 a.m. with the varsity lightweight eights and again at 9 a.m. with the varsity lightweight fours.
