Six Mountaineers Honored By the Big 12

MORGANTOWN, W.Va. – Six West Virginia University men’s basketball players have been named to the 2017 Academic All-Big 12 Men’s Basketball Team.
Nathan Adrian, Jevon Carter and James Long were named to the Academic All-Big 12 Men’s Basketball First Team. James Bolden, Daxter Miles Jr. and Lamont West were named to the Academic All-Big 12 Men’s Basketball Second Team.
Carter earned Academic All-Big 12 First Team honors for the second year in a row, while Adrian earned Academic All-Big 12 honors for the third time in his career and second time he has been named to the Academic All-Big 12 First Team. Miles Jr. earned Academic All-Big 12 honors for the second time in his career.
West Virginia paced all Big 12 teams with six representatives. First team members consist of those who have maintained a 3.20 or better GPA while the second team selections hold a 3.00 to 3.19 GPA.
To qualify, student-athletes must maintain a 3.00 GPA or higher either cumulative or the two previous semesters and must have participated in 60 percent of their team’s scheduled contests. Freshmen and transfers are not eligible in their first year of academic residence. Senior student-athletes who have participated for a minimum of two years and meet all the criteria except percent of participation are also eligible.
