Volleyball Launches European Tour Campaign

MORGANTOWN, W.Va. – In its second year under coach Reed Sunahara, the West Virginia University volleyball team had an exciting season on the court and in the classroom. Interest in the program is growing, as is the support from our generous donors and fans.
The Mountaineers are now looking to go worldwide with their first-ever foreign tour. The NCAA permits foreign trips once every four years, and WVU will look to head to Europe in the near future – hopefully, as soon as the spring of 2017. We hope to travel to Italy, Slovenia and Croatia, where our student-athletes will compete against local clubs and experience the culture of each location. The foreign tour will not only allow WVU to compete internationally and enrich the lives of our current student-athletes, but it also will help our program in terms of recruiting.
“This will be an exciting opportunity for us,” said Sunahara. “Not only will this help us from a recruiting stand point and get our name out there, but we will certainly grow as a team on a trip of this magnitude. I think it will be great for our players to experience new places and cultures. I know Natania (Levak) is excited to bring everyone to Croatia and play in her home country.”
Without the generous support of donors, many of our student-athletes would never have the opportunity to experience a trip of this caliber. A minimum gift of $50 can provide one student-athlete with a day of meals on the trip. A donation of $150 provides one student-athlete with a passport, while $350 provides a Mountaineer with two nights of lodging and ground transportation. A donation of $800 provides four student-athletes with expenses such as educational tours and entertainment and a donation of $1,500 provides one Mountaineer with round-trip airfare. A donation of $4,000 covers the cost of the entire trip for one student-athlete.
This trip is not possible without the support of Mountaineer Nation. Our student-athletes and coaching staff are grateful for the opportunities provided by West Virginia through the generous donations of our supporters. We look forward to representing WVU at home and abroad.
