WVU Continues Louisville Tennis Classic

MORGANTOWN, W.Va. – The West Virginia University women's tennis team continued play at the Louisville Tennis Classic in Louisville, Kentucky, on Saturday.
WVU opened the day with a doubles match against host Louisville, with the Cardinals besting the Mountaineers in all three matches. On the No. 1 court, Sofía Duran and Lyn Yuen Choo fell to Abbie Pahz and Mariana Humberg, 6-4. UL's Raven Neely and Sena Suswam defeated Christina Jordan and Anne-Sophie Courteau, 6-3, on the second court. At No. 3, Kirsten White and Giovanna Caputo dropped a match to Ariana Rodriguez and Tiffany Huber, 6-0.
West Virginia continued doubles play with a match against Michigan State, where the Mountaineers won one of the three matches against the Spartans. On court No. 2, Choo and Goetz topped Aslina Chua and Sammie Memijie, 6-3. The tandem of Jordan and Duran fell to Sara Kuuttila and Habiba Shaker in a tiebreaking set, 7-5, on court No. 1, while Courteau and Caputo fell, 6-4, at the No. 3 slot.
In the afternoon session, the Mountaineers faced Ball State in singles matches. WVU took four of six matches over the Cardinals to complete the day. On the first court, Choo bested Swiderski of BSU, 6-2 and 6-2. At No. 3, Jordan used a third-set tiebreaker to top Isabelle Dohanis, 7-5, 3-6 and 10-6. Duran also used a dramatic third-set tiebreak to best Rebecca Herrington, 7-5, 4-6 and 17-15. Anne-Sophie Courteau defeated Victoria Sea, 6-1, 4-6 and 11-9 at the No. 6 slot.
On the second court, BSU's Peyton Gollhofer defeated Goetz, 7-6 and 6-2 and Giovanna Caputo fell at No. 5, 7-6 (4), 1-6, 10-2. Additionally, Kirsten White competed against Michigan State's Ava Thielman, falling, 6-1 and 6-0.
"We had to overcome a lot of tight matches today and, for the most part, we performed better under pressure," WVU coach Miha Lisac said. "These are small personal victories that help players build confidence and help the players learn how to compete in pressure moments. We will take these wins into tomorrow and look to take another step forward."
The Louisville Tennis Classic concludes for the Mountaineers on Sunday, Nov. 5, as they take on Michigan State in a singles match at 9:30 a.m. ET.
