MORGANTOWN, W.Va. –
West Virginia University Director of Athletics
Shane Lyons unveiled the 2017-18 indoor track and field schedule on Tuesday.
2017-18 INDOOR SCHEDULE
Two home meets at the WVU Shell Building highlight the Mountaineers' slate, which begins with the Marty Pushkin Track Classic on Saturday, Dec. 2. The schedule consists of seven regular-season meets leading up to the Big 12 Indoor Championship and NCAA Indoor Championships.
"This year's schedule follows as per normal here in Morgantown," WVU coach
Sean Cleary said. "We'll start off with a couple of home meets before hitting the road to go to Penn State for what will be an excellent opportunity for us to truly analyze where we are. Indoor track is fortunate; we have a lot of tracks of high quality that are close to us, so we can take short trips to high-quality facilities. Everything is geared toward performing well and having as many All-Big 12 representatives as possible. That's what our goal is, and we're expecting to get a few into the National Championships before we wind things up for outdoor season."
Following the season-opening Marty Pushkin Classic, WVU is set to host the WVU Open on Jan. 13 in Morgantown to close out the home portion of the schedule.
West Virginia hits the road for the first time on Jan. 26-27, when the team competes at the Penn State National Open in University Park, Pennsylvania. The meet will be the first of two trips to Happy Valley this season for the Mountaineers. WVU will return to Penn State on Feb. 18 for the Penn State Tune-Up.
WVU travels to Akron, Ohio, for the Akron Invitational on Feb. 2-3, a week before competing at the Marshall Invitational on Feb. 9-10 in Huntington, West Virginia. A select group of Mountaineers will compete at Boston University's David Hemery Invite on the same weekend.
Iowa State will again serve host to the Big 12 Indoor Championship on Feb. 23-24 in Ames, Iowa. Additionally, the NCAA Indoor Championships, which are set for March 9-10, will be held in College Station, Texas.
The Mountaineers welcome eight newcomers to the team this season, while 21 upperclassmen return for the 2017-18 campaign.
