MORGANTOWN, W.Va. – Ten West Virginia University cross country student-athletes were named to the Academic All-Big 12 First Team, the conference announced.
Academic All-Big 12 Teams
"Ten out of a roster of 15 is incredibly reflective of the work ethic of these young ladies, and the outstanding support given by both the academic support system and administration," WVU coach Sean Cleary said. "Being that freshmen and transfers do not qualify for this award, we hit a home run with the size of this group. This team works so hard both on and off the field, and I could not be prouder."
Three Mountaineers, including redshirt senior Amy Cashin and redshirt sophomores Olivia Hill and Andrea Pettit, were recognized for their 4.0 grade point averages.
Joining Cashin, Hill and Pettit on the Academic All-Big 12 First Team were redshirt seniors Allie Diehl, Maggie Drazba, Jillian Forsey, Brynn Harshbarger and Rebecca Wendt and redshirt freshmen Antigone Archer and Sarah Wills. The 10 representatives on the conference's academic team are the most for WVU since 2015.
First-team members consist of those who have maintained a 3.20 or better GPA while second-team selections hold a 3.00 to 3.19 GPA.
To qualify, student-athletes must maintain a 3.00 GPA or higher either cumulative or the two previous semesters and must have participated in 20 percent of their team's scheduled contests. Freshmen and transfers are not eligible in their first year of academic residence. Senior student-athletes who have participated for a minimum of two years and meet all the criteria except percent of participation are also eligible.
