MORGANTOWN, W.Va. – Redshirt seniors Amy Cashin and Maggie Drazba led the West Virginia University cross country team at the NCAA Mid-Atlantic Regional in Bethlehem, Pennsylvania, on Friday, earning All-Mid-Atlantic Region honors for their performances.

Cashin paced WVU, finishing Lehigh University's Goodman Campus Cross Country Course (6k) in 18th place with a time of 20:32.2, while Drazba earned a 19th-place finish, crossing the finish line in 20:35.1. The top-25 finishers at the meet earn All-Mid-Atlantic Region honors. The duo helped the Mountaineers to a seventh-place team finish.
The honor is the third of Drazba's career, who also was named an All-Mid-Atlantic Region performer in 2014 and 2016. For Cashin, the accolade is the second of her career after also earning all-region honors last season.
"I am very proud of the way this team has conducted itself for the entire fall," WVU coach Sean Cleary said. "They worked very hard and had a wonderful attitude. Unfortunately, they fell short of advancing all the way to the NCAA finals.
"While having both Amy and Maggie garner all-region awards is a tremendous accomplishment, it also comes with the gut-wrenching feeling of not quite being good enough to reach their highest goal. When we look back on this season, we will do so with pride and emptiness."
In a race that featured 193 runners from 28 schools, WVU earned a score of 214, finishing behind No. 19 Penn State (31), No. 9 Villanova (60), No. 27 Georgetown (109), Princeton (123), Pittsburgh (162) and Penn (188).
Following Cashin and Drazba, freshman Bree Warren was the third Mountaineer finisher, registering a 55th-place time of 21:24.5. Fellow freshman Hayley Jackson placed 58th in a time of 21:26.6, while redshirt sophomore Olivia Hill crossed the line in 21.33.6, earning a 64th-place finish.
Redshirt freshman Sarah Wills (21:34.7) and redshirt sophomore Candace Jones (21:41.7) also competed for the Mountaineers.
Cashin and Drazba will next look to earn individual bids into the 2017 NCAA Cross Country Championships. A total of 38 individual runners are selected to compete at nationals following team qualifications. The top-four finishers at each regional from non-qualifying teams receive an automatic bid to the NCAA Championships, as long as they finished in the top 25 at the regional meet. Two at-large bids for remaining runners in a national pool of top-25 regional finishers also will be selected.
The 2017 NCAA Championships will be held in Louisville, Kentucky, on Saturday, Nov. 18.
