WVU Ranks No. 29 in USTFCCCA Poll

MORGANTOWN, W.Va. – The West Virginia University cross country team ranks No. 29 in the United States Track and Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) National Coaches' Poll, announced Tuesday.

The Mountaineers enter the poll for the first time this season following an eighth-place team finish at the Greater Louisville Classic in Louisville, Kentucky, on Sept. 30. It's the first time WVU has appeared in the national rankings since Nov. 1, 2016.
Redshirt senior Maggie Drazba led the Mountaineers at Louisville's E.P. "Tom" Sawyer State Park, posting a 5k time of 17:09.52 and finishing in 21st place. Redshirt senior Amy Cashin added a top-30 finish for the Mountaineers in a field of 328 runners from 37 Division I schools. Cashin finished 29th in a time of 17:17.16.
Redshirt freshman Sarah Wills (63rd), freshman Hayley Jackson (80th) and redshirt sophomore Candace Jones (84th) also factored into WVU's team score of 269.
WVU, which received votes in all four previous polls this season, is one of three Big 12 programs ranked this week, along with No. 18 Iowa State and No. 26 Oklahoma State. The Mountaineers also join No. 10 Penn State, No. 15 Villanova and No. 22 Georgetown in the poll from the Mid-Atlantic Region.
West Virginia continues to sit fourth in the weekly regional rankings, which were released on Monday.
WVU will next compete on Friday, Oct. 13, at the Penn State National Open in University Park, Pennsylvania. The meet marks the second appearance for the Mountaineers at the Nittany Lions' Blue-White Golf Course this season.
