MORGANTOWN, W.Va. - West Virginia advanced three spots in this week’s Associated Press Top 25 men’s basketball poll to No. 7, and one spot to No. 8 in this week’s USA Today Coaches’ Poll, released earlier today.
The Mountaineers (15-2, 4-1) posted a 2-0 week last week, defeating then-No. 1 Baylor, 89-68, at the WVU Coliseum on Tuesday night and Texas, 74-72, in Austin on Saturday.
Senior guard Teyvon Myers came off the bench to score a career-high 16 points and Jevon Carter contributed 15 in the victory over the Longhorns two days ago.
West Virginia is one of three Big 12 teams in this week’s AP top 10; Kansas is now No. 2 and Baylor is No. 6. Kansas has taken over the top spot in the coaches’ poll while Baylor falls to No. 6.
WVU returns to action on Wednesday night at the WVU Coliseum when Oklahoma comes to Morgantown. The Sooners are coming off their first Big 12 victory of the season against Texas Tech on Saturday when Jordan Woodard scored 27 points and Rashard Odomes added a career-high 24 for OU.
The victory snapped a season-long, seven-game losing streak for Oklahoma.
