MORGANTOWN, W.Va - West Virginia University freshman rower Morgan Grimm passed away Saturday, September 17, from injuries sustained in an automobile accident.
“Our loss is one shared with the rowing community in Parkersburg and with those close to the Grimm family in Vienna,” WVU head coach Jimmy King said. “As we struggle to come to terms with what has happened, we realize that no loss is greater felt than perhaps that of a parent for a child. I hope that in some possible way, we might be able to bear a bit of the grief felt by the Grimms at this time. Although Morgan was with our team for a short while, she will most certainly remain with our team in spirit as we move forward.”
Grimm, a native of Vienna, West Virginia, was a general business major who enrolled at WVU in the fall of 2016.
After a two-week tryout, Grimm was named to the novice rowing team on September 8.
She was a four-year rower at Parkersburg High School, where she was named a captain her senior year and competed in both the Varsity 4 and Varsity 8 events.
Grimm led the Parkersburg High School Rowing team to a silver and bronze medal in the Lindamood Regatta and was named the WTAP Student - Athlete of the Week on May 10, 2016. She was also a member of the Principal’s List and the National Technical Honor Society at Parkersburg High.
