MORGANTOWN, W.Va. – Redshirt junior Jillian Forsey of the West Virginia University cross country team has been named the Big 12 Runner of the Week, the Big 12 Conference announced on Tuesday.
“Jillian had a nice race at the Texas Tech Open,” coach Sean Cleary said. “She’s made a nice comeback after missing last year. We hope for this to be a springboard into a successful fall.”
The Stephenville, Newfoundland and Labrador, native, is the second Mountaineer in program history to achieve Big 12 Runner of the Week honors. WVU alum Sarah Martinelli received the weekly honor in 2013.
The Mountaineers opened the regular season at the Texas Tech Open, on Sept. 8, in Lubbock, Texas. Forsey won the 6k race, while also helping the Mountaineers collect a team victory. With 70 runners in the mix, Forsey crossed the finish line in first place with a time of 21:05.50.
Out of 12 teams, WVU won with 20 points, besting Texas Tech by 15 points. The Red Raiders finished second with a team score of 35.
