MORGANTOWN, W.Va. – The West Virginia University track and field team completed the first day of the 122nd-annual Penn Relays on Thursday, in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, at Penn’s Franklin Field.
The first day of competition at the Penn Relays was highlighted by the Mountaineers’ distance medley relay team posting a top-three finish and a top-six finish in the women’s college long jump.
WVU’s distance medley relay team consisted of juniors Brianna Kerekes and Amy Cashin and sophomores Bria Welker and Rebecca Wendt. The team crossed the finish line in third place with a time of 11:50.96.
Freshman Danique Bryan placed sixth in the women’s college long jump with a mark of 5.64 meters.
In the women's college high jump, senior Hannah Stone tied for 10th place with a mark of 1.67 meters, and freshman Faith Penny tied for 18th, jumping 1.63 meters.
Competing at the prestigious Penn Relays for the sixth consecutive year, the Mountaineers will conclude competition at the event tomorrow.
The first set of events will begin at 9 a.m. ET, while competition for West Virginia will start at 10 a.m. ET with sophomore Shamoya McNeil in the college women’s triple jump championship and Bryan at 11 a.m. ET in the college women’s triple jump.
