The Mountaineers will compete in Thursday and Friday’s events. The team will start competition on Thursday with the high jump at 10 a.m. ET, and will conclude with the 10,000-meter run at 10:30 p.m. ET. On Friday, WVU will have two participants in the triple jump at 10 a.m. ET.
“The Penn Relays is always a wonderful opportunity for our team to compete in front of a gigantic crowd,” coach Sean Cleary said. “While we are winding down the regular season, this is a great opportunity to continue the momentum that we have had over the last few weeks and improve our marks.”
At the 2015 Penn Relays, WVU’s distance medley relay team, comprised of senior Kelly Williams, graduate Christa D’Egidio, junior Brianna Kerekes and junior Amy Cashin won with a time of 11:40.54.
West Virginia last competed at the Virginia Challenge in Charlottesville, Virginia, and the Jesse Owens Classic in Columbus, Ohio, from April 22-23. Two Mountaineers claimed victories at the Virginia Challenge, one in the pole vault and one in the high jump, and WVU added five career and four season-best times over the weekend.
Sophomore Madelin Gardner won the pole vault, vaulting a career-best mark of 3.90 meters to place her at No. 4 on WVU’s top-five outdoor performance list in history. In the high jump, senior Hannah Stone won with a season-best mark of 1.74 meters.
